3. Filtration
Filters are essential for the nitrogen cycle. They remove toxic ammonia and provide biological filtration. Sponge filters are ideal for bettas.
One filter selection is required.
4. Temperature
Bettas are tropical fish and need 78-80°F. A heater is required. A thermometer helps monitor temperature.
A heater (50W or 100W) is required.
5. Substrate
Choose a safe substrate. Gravel and sand are popular choices. Active plant soil is best for live plants. Bare bottom is easiest to clean.
At least one substrate selection is required.
6. Plants & Decor
Plants provide hiding spots and enrichment. Live plants help clean the water. Avoid plastic plants - they tear betta fins. Silk plants are safe alternatives.
7. Water Prep
Water conditioner removes toxic chlorine. Test kits monitor water quality. Beneficial bacteria helps establish the nitrogen cycle faster.
